About Shoulder pain
Shoulder pain is one of the most common joint problems. It is a complex joint involving a many structures including muscles, bones, ligaments, tendons and fluid filled sacs operating in a small space. There are many presentations of pain — It may only hurt in certain angles, lifting up sideways or when sleeping at night. It is important to diagnose and treat the root cause of the pain.
Most shoulder pain is categorized into 4 categories
Inflammation including bursitis or tendinitis
Tendon Tears
Shoulder instability/ weakness
Osteoarthritis
Impact of Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain can significantly impact quality of life from hindering your ability to work, overhead activities, doing house chores and even taking off your shirt.
Shoulder pain when not treated can lead to muscle weakness, shoulder instability and stiffness. Untreated chronic inflammation due to a partially torn rotator cuff tendon could lead to a fully thickness tear and eventually progress to shoulder arthritis.
